Neid And The Dirge of Wake
♫ Guild Wars 2 OST - 24. Zhaitan
Wake and Loke quickly grew into a bonded, inseparable pair. In their happiness, their raw emotion created a child. Neid held aspects from both of his parents; Wake’s strong resolve and Loke’s ability to make others happy. Neid was a very beloved child of both Wake and Loke.
As he grew, Wake and Loke often met in the stars, whispering if there were more than just Neid. Neid could not understand why his parents needed more than him, but he kept quiet regardless. Wake and Loke worked together to forge the stars into a ball of earth, moving their claws through it like clay. Surely their new children would like something other than stardust to lay on. Neid grew irritated at this. “I’m their only….” he whispered angrily.

Neid let this continue for many years as his parents continued to add onto the world, making it larger and larger, adding greenery and animals to it, along with water and sky. In the center, raw stardust was kept to keep it warm. Wake and Loke decided that they too would live on this new home. Bringing Neid along with them, they created more and more creatures to inhabit the land. The gates of Neid’s jealousy burst open, and he began to attack his siblings in a raw fit of rage. Neid sped through the land, cracking the earth that his parents lovingly forged for their children. Lava began to form along these cracks, drowning areas in flame.
Wake and Loke, noticing something had gone horribly wrong, screamed for Neid to stop, begging him to let them know why he was hurting his siblings. Neid would not answer. Wake desperately threw themself at Neid, hoping that it would perhaps knock some sense into him. However, Neid only responded by attacking their parent, pure betrayal burning in their eyes.
Loke for the first time was completely heartbroken. Two of their most cherished beings were fighting, and Loke feared one might cease to exist if it continued. In fear, they yelled, “We have to protect our children, and Neid is no longer our child!” tears streaming down their face. Then suddenly, Loke flung themself at Neid. Loke helped their mate up, both staring at the dazed Neid.
“The children need to hide. They’ll all be gone if we let this continue” Wake stated, wrapping their tail around Loke’s.
Loke whisked the remaining children away deep into the ground. Wake held their son Neid, ignoring his attacks in determined love. Neid clawed at his parent and tried to break free, spitting fire. He is too far gone Wake realized. When Loke returned, they saw their love torn apart in anguish as Wake prepared to end Neid's terror. The two agreed that there was only one thing that they could do; which was to destroy their son who had killed his siblings. They regretfully combined both of their magic into a powerful shard of pure magic, and thrust it deep into Neid's darkened heart.

It was not long after the incident that Wake became restless. Loke had decided to use crystals to protect their children, their bones now covered in the stones like armor. The crystals covered the children and protected them while they slept, healing over time. However, Wake did not think this was enough. They became paranoid that they would lose more children, and were horribly stricken with guilt over Neid. In Loke and Wake's tears, they had repaired the earth for the most part. Some areas saturated with raw magic from the battle were left floating in the air, tendrils of light bathing them. Other areas were not as healed, which is evident even today by the fiery fissures in the land. In Wake's sadness, the same darkness that plagued Neid's heart had poisoned them as well.
Desperately afraid of losing everything again, especially by their own hand, Wake pleaded with Loke to put them to sleep.
"Please, love. Lock me away. Hide me from the children. I'm afraid my heart is dark."
Loke did not want to lose their love and began to cry. They could not bear to be without them, especially in such a troubling time. However, the poison had started to affect some areas of the land. Being the god of the land, Wake was connected to it and the very scaffolding that kept it together hinged on their health. Wake began to sing a song to comfort their love, giving them instructions to put them to sleep. Loke appointed four children to help and kissed their foreheads, granting them magic as Loke had. Each was given magic over an element, which was lead by a task; Fire, or Pyrotechnics, Wind, or Music, Water, or Painting, and Earth, of Sculpting. These four were dubbed the Artists.
With the Artists, Loke completed Wake's wish of putting them to sleep. A magical cage was constructed to keep Wake from leaving if the poison took over completely, preventing them from become as corrupted as their dear child, Neid.
Wake used her last energy to awaken their children. It's written that the soldier Aluris were the first, brave enough to go back to the surface. After them, the magicians came, called by Loke's scream. The last ones, hidden in the shadows, were the sentinels. Of course, no one knows if this is true; it is just a legend.
